Watch Out For Sharks!

Most people want to stay away from sharks, but the Blue Shark is a different story.

Like many drinks on the island of Curaçao, one of the main ingredients is Blue Curaçao, a brand name drink, which you can find in many stores across the world.

The Blue Shark — like its namesake — has quite a bite!

One of the ingredients in this drink is the laraha, a fruit from the laraha tree, indigenous to Curaçao. According to the good folks at the Blue Curaçao company, the liquor owes its existence to a plantation on the island that has 45 laraha trees. Some of the fruit is given to goats as food, but the dried peeled part of the fruit is put in a jute bag and mixed with alcohol and water. Four days pass. After that, the jute bags are taken out and other secret ingredients are mixed in. Two more days pass. This is some process, we know!

Somewhere in there, the drink is dyed blue, giving it that color we love so much.

Okay, but back to the cocktail — how do you make the Blue Shark? Get this — it’s so simple, you could make it before you finish reading this paragraph, as long as you’ve got the ingredients. Here’s what you need:

Ingredients
3/4 oz vodka
1/2 oz tequila
1/2 oz Blue Curaçao liquor

Directions
Throw everything into a glass, mix it up, and, in keeping with the shark theme, pour it down your jaws, and make a terrible pun about how it has a real bite.
