Nothing Going on Here, Just A Dirty Banana

“Just One Drink.” The grandest lie of them all.

Research proves why it’s so hard to stop after one drink: our brains are wired to reach for another. Never has there been a greater neurological battle than when a Dirty Banana is placed in front of you. It’s more than just a name to giggle at (get your head out of the gutter, guys), we’re talking about the famous Caribbean cocktail. ‘One more surely won’t hurt, it’s like a banana milkshake,’ you tell yourself. Plus, your doctor says you need to up your potassium.

The Dirty Banana is dangerously good and especially refreshing after baking in the sun all day. So good, you can probably lay off those vitamin B6 supplements for the remainder of the year. So what makes the Dirty Banana so good? Forged from fresh bananas (even fresher if you happen to be enjoying one locally in St. Lucia), this smoothie-like concoction sips more like a dessert than a cocktail. Don’t be fooled though, it packs quite a punch. If you happen to be in St. Lucia, stop by the Coconut Bay Resort where “Big Ted” will make you an extra special version of the cocktail known as the “Filthy Banana.” Word on the street is that it’s made with an extra special step: more rum.

Oh, and if you and your partner start to feel romantic, you may want to check out whether it was made with the spiced version of Chairman’s Reserve, rumored to include bois bande, a Caribbean bark renowned as a potent aphrodisiac.

Wanna make it at home? Thought so. Add all ingredients to blender with ice. Blend until well mixed. Garnish with a pineapple wedge. Drink.
