Margaritaville Ambassador of the Semester: Meet Mallory

What is your name? Mallory W.

What school do you go to? Virginia Tech

What is your major? Marketing

Tell us a little bit about yourself… I am 20 years old and I am originally from Northern Virginia, outside of Washington D.C. I am starting my second semester of my Junior year at Virginia Tech.

What pieces of Margaritaville resonate with college students the most? Margaritaville is all about slowing down and taking time to appreciate the little things in life. College can be a very stressful environment at times and if you don’t take the time to relax every once in a while, you will drive yourself crazy. This is why I think every college student can relate to the Margaritaville state of mind.

What is your favorite Margaritaville memory? My favorite Margaritaville memory has got to be when I went to a Buffett concert while there was a tornado warning. We had to hide out under the pavilion until it passed. A bunch of people were worried the concert would get canceled but then the sky cleared and there was a full perfect rainbow over the outdoor pavilion lawn. Jimmy Buffett came out on stage and sang somewhere over the rainbow. It was truly a magical experience.

What is your favorite Margaritaville University product? My favorite MargU product is the gray sweatshirt!

What surprised you about Margaritaville after becoming an ambassador? Everyone that is part of the Margaritaville family really does live out the brand’s motto. Everyone is so encouraging and makes you feel important no matter what you are doing.

What is your favorite Jimmy lyric? “Wrinkles only go where the smiles have been.” To me this lyric means to not worry about what is going to happen in the future and to enjoy living in the now. This is a lot easier said than done, but it is something that I try to remind myself of constantly.

What is your favorite memory of Margaritaville University? My first big event bringing MargU to Virginia Tech was at Gobblerfest, the school’s largest organizations fair. I setup a Margaritaville University table stocked with t-shirts, a tumble tower, koozies, stickers, a beach cruiser and more to give away to those who participated in games and expressed interest. There were over a hundred different clubs and organizations represented and the Margaritaville table was the place to be! It was full of people the entire day that were interested and wanted to learn more about what Margaritaville University is all about. I had the opportunity to speak with a wide variety of people ranging from dedicated parrot heads, to people who had no idea what Margaritaville was. It was an awesome experience and I loved sharing the Margaritaville state of mind with fellow Hokies.

Where is your Margaritaville? My Margaritaville is being anywhere outside, with a view, during sunset, or accompanied by my dog @Braceythedog.

Barefoot or Flip Flops? Definitely barefoot! I do love a good pair of flip flops but when I have the option to not wear shoes I’ll always do it.

How did you find out about Margaritaville University? My dad is actually the first person that told me about it. He saw it on the website and forwarded it to me. Everything about the description seemed to fit with my life perfectly so of course I had to immediately apply.

What is your favorite Jimmy Buffett song? A Pirate Looks at Forty because listening to it always makes me slow things down and relax.
