MargU 2021 Summer Reading List

After what seemed to be an extra-long winter, we’re eager to kick back with our feet in the water and toes in the sand. One of our favorite ways to escape the everyday, whether we can physically make it to the beach or not, is diving headfirst into a great book. Here are our top picks to pack in your beach bag this summer.

Tales From Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffett

Written by the man himself, Tales of Margaritaville takes you on a variety of adventures with cowboy “Tully Mars.” Several of the short stories are based on Mr. Buffett’s own experiences and are guaranteed to take you to paradise. Naturally, we had to include this on our list.

Beach Read by Emily Henry          

A witty and heartfelt story of two neighbors (and authors) who strike up a deal to walk in each other’s shoes for the summer in order to cure their writer’s block. Taking place right at the beach, this is good-hearted read you won’t want to miss. 

The Layover by Lacie Waldon

A comedy about life and love, The Layover takes you on an unexpected trip to Belize when a quick stop turns into a weekend long layover in paradise. Tropical, romantic and under the Caribbean sun… this is a summer must read!

Kook: What Surfing Taught Me About Love, Life, and Catching the Perfect Wave by Peter Heller

The title of this one says it all. Heller takes you on his journey of self-discovery through his passion for surfing, adventure and the sea. Kook is both touching and humorous, making it the perfect book for your summer road trip.

Whether you’re grilling out in the backyard or cooking up a 4-course meal for a summer dinner party, Margaritaville: The Cookbook will have you covered on all your favorite recipes from paradise. And to top it all off… drink recipes are included too!

Spending summer along the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard? Say no more. Emmy Award- winning journalist, Sunny Hostin, tells a tale of family and untold secrets. Get ready to be on the edge of your seat if you choose to read this novel.  

The Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life by William Finnegan

Winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for an Autobiography, Barbarian Days memoirs the life of William Finnegan surfing around the globe while learning several lessons along the way. A true old-school adventure tale, this one has definitely earned a spot on the beach blanket.
