Do The Charleston

It’s a dance! It’s a city! It’s a cocktail!

Put on your finest beach attire (aka jeans and a tshirt) and hop over to the bar for the liquid Lindy known as The Charleston Cocktail.

Charleston hotspot High Cotton’s beverage director, Patrick Emerson, created this delish drink for a cocktail competition held by a local vodka company. He uses a special Charleston madeira made by the Rare Wine Company, but any madeira will do, and it’ll be just as tasty.

If you’re visiting Folly Beach, then by all means make your way over to High Cotton, where you can sample The Charleston, or a whole menu of mixologist’s handiwork.  Or, if you’re recreating at home, just follow the steps below:

Ingredients
Ice cubes, plus crushed ice
1 1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz Madeira
2 oz chilled brewed black tea
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
1/2 oz mint syrup
1/2 oz water
1 mint sprig

Make It
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Add all remaining ingredients, except crushed ice and mint sprig. Shake well; strain into a tall glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with mint.

Take a big swig, enjoy, and maybe get a little jazzy.
