Get inspired to drink your way across America (without ever leaving your backyard) with Margaritaville’s 50 Drinks in 50 States series.

Summer will officially commence on June 21, with the longest day of sunlight for the year. Big applause there! It’s probably safe to say that from coast to coast, people are enjoying summer vibes and warm weather these days. The fluctuation of summer weather often stirs up dramatic storms in certain parts of the country. It seems only fitting to bring you the Dark N’ Stormy cocktail in Oklahoma, where they experienced 57 tornadoes in 2016 and have already had 67 this year!

As you may recall, Oklahoma was the setting for the famed 1996 movie Twister staring Helen Hunt and the late Bill Paxton. Oklahoma is situated in “Tornado Alley” – a large tornado-prone area of the U.S. between the Rocky Mountains and Appalachian Mountains.

The true origins of the Dark N’ Stormy is from the Gosling Brothers Ltd of Bermuda and the recipe was created just after World War 1. The drink is often associated with the sailing community and will surely be enjoyed by those competing in the 35th America’s Cup – an international sailing competition in Bermuda. If you’re someone who enjoys the Moscow Mule, then you must compare it to this variation.

For those of you in Tulsa this summer, let the talented bartenders at Margaritaville Tulsa mix you up a Dark N’ Stormy as you overlook the Arkansas River.

Now, when the real storm strikes, we encourage taking maximum safety measures and leaving your drink behind!
