50 Drinks in 50 States: Lynchburg Lemonade in Tennessee

Get inspired to drink your way across America (without ever leaving your backyard) with Margaritaville’s 50 Drinks in 50 States series.

Newsflash – The summer season is nearly half way over! Local state and county fairs are in full swing across the Midwest, and some kids are already back to school from Arizona to Florida. But, have no fear – Margaritaville is here with another tasty cocktail to help you sip on summer as long as possible. Today, we bring you the Lynchburg Lemonade in Tennessee.

This refreshing drink does not actually contain lemonade, rather it is a combination of lemon-lime soda, sweet and sour mix, triple sec and good old Tennessee-style whiskey. This cocktail was created and promoted by the Jack Daniels distillery in the early 1980s. The distillery is based in Lynchburg, TN, hence the namesake for this beverage.

While this cocktail is easy to make from scratch, you can now purchase pre-mixed cans in stores. The Lynchburg Lemonade is perfect for those final summer days of camping and afternoon cookouts. Stay cool!

 Ingredients (Makes 1 Serving)

  • 1.5 ounce Tennessee Whiskey, such as Jack Daniels
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • 1 ounce sweet and sour mix
  • 2-4 ounces lemon-lime soda
  • 1 lemon wheel for garnish

Directions
Combine whiskey, triple sec, and sweet and sour mix with ice in a cocktail shaker. Pour into pint glass, top with the lemon-lime soda and garnish with a zesty lemon wheel.

A Twist
To enhance the citrus mix, consider adding a splash of freshly squeezed orange juice.

For a spicy spin on this drink, muddle 1-2 slices of jalapeno pepper and shake with the mixture. Garnish with another slice of pepper. Enjoy!
