The Backyard Hotel & Bar is located four kilometers south of Jaco Beach in Playa Hermosa, which is one of the country’s best surfing and sunbathing beaches.

Yeah, they serve breakfast and lunch, but the bar is what you come for. And you come for its grassroots surf contest every Saturday at 4 pm. The best of the best local surfers, as well as a few tourists, make the pilgrimage here every week to showcase their skills. If you’re ever wondering what the waves are doing on a particular day, just check out the live surf cam on the website, so you can see for yourself if the surf is up.

If you can’t make it here on a Saturday, have no fear.  The Backyard Bar is also known as one of the premiere places in the country to hear live music.  And Wednesday Night, aka Ladies Night, brings along a DJ and DANCING.  Happy Hour is from 4:30-7:30 and 9-11, so their math may not be so hot, but their bar scene is!  Add to all of this a Tex-Mex menu and a perfect vantage point for watching the sun go down… we’ve gotta get ourselves here.
