When most people think of an adventurous life, they imagine someone who flies to a new country every weekend, soaking up every culture and experience they possibly can. While this is the life that many people dream of, adventure can really be a part of everyday life, wherever you are. You don’t need to spend thousands on plane tickets, hotels, and gear. You can find adventure anywhere! Jump in your car and start driving away from your responsibilities…I bet you’ll find something you’ve never seen before. Here are a few tips to help you kick off a new carefree, adventurous life:
“Anything, Anytime, Anywhere”: Decide what it is you’re wanting to do.
What are you looking to get out of this? Are you looking to kill a few hours on a nice afternoon? Or are you looking to get away for a couple days and forget the world? Don’t put too much thought into exactly what you want to do, but make sure to bring the necessities if you’re going to be spending a night away from home.
“I’ve made enough money to buy Miami…”: Keep a little cash on you.
This goes back to bringing the things necessary for your trip. If you’re only looking to spend a few hours doing something new, then you don’t need much cash. If you’re going to be spending a couple nights in a hotel, make sure to take enough money to cover a hotel room, food, transportation, and more. But always bring a credit card. It’s tempting to just throw caution to the wind and go, but you have to be smart- make sure you’ll be okay if you blow out a tire (or a flip flop).
“I like mine with lettuce and tomato”: Get some road snacks and a map.
Go crazy. Don’t look at calories, sugar, or carbs. It should look like a seven-year-old went shopping: Cookies, candy, Margaritaville Singles To-Go, energy drinks, bags upon bags of chips, Margaritaville Fruit & Nut Mix. Anything goes.
“They were quite a pair of pioneers”: Don’t make a plan, and don’t have any expectations.
Every time you go out, it’s going to be a new, different experience. Don’t go into it expecting to do the same old routine every time. The whole point is to do something new and exciting.
“Marimbas, kalimbas, he’s playin’ steel drums”: Make the perfect playlist.
You’re gonna want songs that are fun to play. Loud. And with the windows down. This one’s totally up to your own personal taste, but here’s a pretty good start:
- All Summer Long- Kid Rock
- Beautiful Drug- Zac Brown Band
- Brown Eyed Girl– Jimmy Buffett
- Cheeseburger in Paradise- Jimmy Buffett
- Cruise- Florida-Georgia Line
- Don’t Stop Believing- Journey
- Everybody Talks- Neon Trees
- Fins- Jimmy Buffett
- Hold On Loosely- .38 Special
- I’m a Believer- Smash Mouth
- Kokomo- The Beach Boys
- License to Chill- Jimmy Buffett
- Livin’ on a Prayer- Bon Jovi
- September- Earth, Wind & Fire
- Stacy’s Mom- Fountains of Wayne
- Sweet Home Alabama- Lynyrd Skynyrd
“Where the children play on the shore each day, and all are safe within”: Get a tracking app.
As fun as going on an adventure is, it’s best to be safe about it. With the Life360, Find My Friends, or a similar app, anyone you add to your family circle can see where you are based on your phone’s GPS location. Make sure you add someone you trust, and they’ll be able to see where you are just in case you’ve been gone a little too long or can’t get in touch.
“The Great Filling Station Holdup”: Gas up- and have an extra can.
Trust me- it’s no fun running out of gas in the middle of nowhere. Make sure it doesn’t happen. Fill up your tank and, if you can, have a spare gas can in the trunk.
“Started lookin’ around, figure out how to have a little fun”: Keep an eye out along the road.
Always be watching along the road. The little places you find to pull off are what makes each adventure unique and memorable. Look for beaches, creeks, piers, abandoned houses and mines, little roadside attractions, or hiking trails. There’s no telling what you could find.
“Wastin’ away again”: Find the nearest Buffett-inspired restaurant.
Wrap up your adventure with a trip to the best restaurants there are. Whether it’s a Margaritaville Restaurant, Cheeseburger in Paradise, LandShark Bar & Grill, or a 5 O’clock Somewhere Bar, There’s probably something close to you. Click here to find a few beach bites near you.
