Vacation club includes a session with a board-certified music therapist when travelers book a stay at a Margaritaville Vacation Clubby Wyndham resort
Margaritaville Vacation Club® by Wyndham, the vacation ownership club inspired by the laid-back, adventurous lifestyle and escapism of its namesake, is helping travelers get their minds back on island time after a stressful year by providing a complimentary music therapy session when they book their next trip to paradise. Music therapy has been shown to decrease symptoms of anxiety and stress, and will help travelers be in the right frame of mind as they get ready to take their first long overdue vacation.
From now until August 15, 2021*, vacationers who book a stay at one of three Margaritaville Vacation Club resorts in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands or Nashville, Tennessee through the end of the year will be able to book a private music therapy session with board-certified music therapist Noel Anderson prior to their vacation by using their reservation confirmation number.
In addition to the free session with Noel Anderson, travelers will enjoy a curated playlist from Noel on Pandora’s Margaritaville station, designed to keep them in a Vacation State of Mind™ throughout their trip and beyond.
“Music therapy has long been regarded as an established allied healthcare service for people of all ages and is highly effective in helping folks understand and process emotions,” said Noel Anderson, board-certified music therapist and owner of Anderson Music Therapy. “With so much change and isolation occurring over the last year, music therapy can positively affect mood and emotional states by releasing ‘feel good’ neurochemicals like dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin. Music therapy provides a safe and supportive environment for relaxation – a key element in releasing stress as vacationers prepare to venture out into the world again.”
To get adventure seekers started on their journey to a Vacation State of Mind, Noel recommends adhering to the following pre-trip tips:
- Acknowledge your feelings: It’s normal to feel nervous or anxious about your travel plans, especially if you haven’t vacationed in a while. It may be tempting to ignore your feelings, but this is ultimately counterproductive. When you feel an uncomfortable emotion, consider listening to a song that matches your mood. Listen carefully to the lyrics and see what feelings and thoughts align with your mood and circumstances. Share this song and your feelings with a trustworthy friend or family member.
- Focus on how you want to feel: Imagine your trip vividly with all the sights, sounds, smells, and tangible feelings. Put on relaxing music and take several deep breathes to calm your nervous system. Then, imagine every aspect of your vacation — from booking and packing to driving, flying, and so on. If you notice your body tensing, take several deep breaths and imagine you’re in your favorite place until you feel relaxed again.
- Create your own “waiting music”: Music has a significant effect on the way we process time. When you start feeling impatient about your trip to paradise, use music and mindfulness to acknowledge your thoughts and let go of control. You can do this by listening to a song as if you’re hearing it for the first time – a technique known as “beginner’s mind”. As you listen with a beginner’s mind, practice being present in the moment, open to possibilities, and acknowledge the environment without judgment. Close your eyes and mentally note the volume, tempo, lyrics, mood, and vocal elements of the singer. You’ll be on your way to paradise soon enough with a new laid-back and flexible Vacation State of Mind.
“Owners and guests know that the Vacation State of Mind is a way of life at Margaritaville Vacation Club,” said Melody Bostic Brown, publisher of Destinations magazine and host of “Vacations Unpacked” which is produced by Wyndham Destinations portfolio of brands, including Margaritaville Vacation Club. “We know it’s been a long while since vacationers have enjoyed sinking their toes in the sand or soaking in the sights and sounds of captivating downtowns. Our new partnership with Noel serves as a much needed uplifting soundtrack to welcome folks back to travel, so that the only worry they will have when they arrive at our resorts is which mocktail or cocktail to whip up in their Frozen Concoction Maker®.”
