Tell us a little bit about yourself…
I’m from Toronto, Canada where I grew up with two immigrant parents. I’ll be honest, I never grew up surrounded by parrot heads, but as I started University, I discovered more about Jimmy and his brand and fell in love. That’s how I stumbled upon the Margaritaville University College Ambassador Program, and after 2 semesters, it has become one of the best organizations I’ve been a part of! Although I’ve never lived near a beach or been in year-round warm weather, I’ve always gravitated to the beach. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to warm places but hope one day I get to actually move near a beach. You know what they say, if life gives you limes, make margaritas!
How have you shared the Margaritaville state of mind with your campus?
I found the best way to share the Margaritaville state of mind is to partner with pre-existing clubs and organizations already on campus. In the past, I have shared the state of mind through hackathons, formals, the ultimate frisbee team, and plenty more! In addition to that, I used my school’s Facebook groups to help promote the events and contests. Through these efforts, I was able to score another ambassador from Queen’s University to join the MargU team on campus.
What is your favorite Jimmy Buffett song?
My favorite Jimmy Buffett song has to be the classic “Margaritaville”! One summer, I worked as a server on a local cruise boat and on every lunch and dinner there was live entertainment. Part of the entertainer’s set was singing Margaritaville, and even after almost 100 times listening to it live, I’m not sick of it and can still jam out to it whenever, wherever!
If you could create a new Margaritaville University product, what would it be?
I would create a decked out Margaritaville longboard! Just imagine boarding around campus with that beautiful Margaritaville blue.
How many Margaritaville locations have you been to? Which one is your favorite and why?
Since I am from Canada, unfortunately, there are not many Margaritaville locations near me. (yet…) However, I’ve been lucky enough to visit the Niagara Falls location back in the day and THREE locations within this year including Margaritaville Syracuse, Grand Cayman and Bahamas! My favorite location is Grand Cayman because I remember turning the corner and being surprised at the giant swimming pool and slide on the roof top of the building! I had so much fun at that location, the view was great, and it was TAX FREE!
You walk out of lecture, quit school and get on a plane to never return… Where do you go?
I would go to Hawaii, as it is a place I’ve never been before but is on the top of my bucket list. I feel that Hawaii offers a very different pace of life – away from all the hustle and bustle, and has a tight knit community. There’s also a lot of rooted traditions and history there, where I would love to be a part of. I wouldn’t mind living the rest of my days on a beach and soaking the sun up!
Barefoot or Flip Flops?
Flipper floppers all the way!
What should the mascot for Margaritaville be and what is his/her name?
Of course it has to be a Shark named Finley!
Would you rather explore the tropics by boat or sea plane?
I would love to explore the tropics by boat because I want that sunshine beaming on my face and salt in my hair!
What would you teach at Margaritaville University?
SUNY101 – The history of sun tanning.
What pieces of Margaritaville resonate with college students the most?
I think what resonates the most with college students is that Margaritaville is a state of mind. No matter where you go to school, hot or cold, you can channel a relaxed lifestyle. This is extremely important since school can be very stressful. That’s why I’ve always tried to expand Margaritaville’s presence on campus as the brand can be the bridge between a student and their oasis.
