MargU: Where Are They Now? (Part 3)

Looking back at past MargU semesters, we sure can say we’ve come a long way! But what happens when we take a look forward? We spoke to several of our MargU alumni (you can read Part 1 of this series here and Part 2 here) to find out what they’re up to now and how Margaritaville University impacted their journeys.

Madelyn B.
University of Southern Mississippi, Hospitality and Tourism Management

My name is Madelyn, and I attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss. This also happens to be where the “boss man” himself attended college! I was there when USM dedicated a plaque outside of “The Hub” where Jimmy and original member of the Coral Reefer band, Greg Taylor, sat on the steps and jammed.

In 2018, I also graduated from MargU after being a member of the inaugural class. I am currently back in my hometown of Pensacola, Fla., working in the hospitality and tourism industry. I LOVE promoting tourism in our area, which is all about the Margaritaville lifestyle… the beach, friends, music, good times, relaxation, and spreading happiness to as many people as possible!

From having experience in resorts to destination marketing, MargU greatly impacted my career. Having MargU on my resume was a big conversation starter when I was going through the interview process. I am so thankful to be a part of the MargU family, as it helped me gain confidence and allowed me to connect with Buffett-loving friends all over the world. Thank you to everyone at Margaritaville University…y’all are awesome and will forever be one of my favorite college experiences! Fins Up!

Tiffany C.
Queen’s University, Computer Science

Hello! My name is Tiffany and I went to Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada. I majored in Computer Science with a minor in Parrot Head entomology and graduated in the Class of 2019 from MargU!

Since graduating, I’ve been working in the FinTech space for almost a year in Toronto as a Delivery Lead. Life has been pretty busy since I finished school, but I always try to channel my inner MargU and bring that mentality into my daily life.

From MargU – in addition to being able to join an amazing and positive community – I was able to further develop my interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills from tabling on campus sharing the Margaritaville state of mind or putting together events and contests. Being a part of MargU has enriched my college and professional experience as I exercise these very skills I developed in college now every day at work. I’m super proud to call myself a MargU Alum. FINS UP!

Taylor F.
Texas A&M University, Communications

Howdy! My name is Taylor and I am a MargU alum Class of 2018! I am now wrapping up my first semester of law school at South Texas College of Law in Houston.

During my time as an ambassador, I learned how to use the Margaritaville state of mind to escape from the long hours of studying, and how to share this skill with others. My study group knows me as the girl that is always listening to Buffett, wearing something that has to do with Margaritaville or day- dreaming about being on the beach.

Another super awesome thing about MargU is that it opens a great way to make a connection with anyone that ever wears a Margaritaville shirt or makes any type of Buffett reference. It has come up so many times in job interviews and professor office hours! I’ve also gotten to give advice to other ambassadors in the group that are considering law school and hear from others that are in it. I am so thankful for the MargU Family! Fins Up and Gig’em!

Marti Y.
Texas Christian University, Music

Hi there! I am from the MargU Class of 2019. After graduating from TCU, I decided to pursue her Masters degree at Indiana University in Arts Administration. I am working at a local theatre and a winery.

MargU affects so many, and it instilled the “Fins Up” mentality in me in everything I do…keeping me calm, cool, and always wishing I was on a beach drinking margaritas.

Although I graduated from MargU, I’m so proud that one of my sisters is currently an ambassador at St. Leo University!

Viselle H.
Saginaw Valley State University, Occupational Therapy

I graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, Mich., where I received my Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. I graduated from MargU in December 2019!

I am currently studying for my board exam to become a registered Occupational Therapist. The best thing I learned from MargU was the proud feeling of being part of an amazing program and networking with other ambassadors from all over. MargU has helped me expand my communication and creativity skills through the different monthly challenges.

Being an Occupational Therapy student, I learned to use those valuable skills in many of my treatment sessions with my patients. I definitely loved being a Margaritaville University Ambassador, but I’m proud to say I’m now part of the MargU Alumni group. Fins Up!

Marki P.
California State Polytechnic University, Business Marketing

Ahoy! I graduated from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona and from MargU in 2017. I currently work in marketing for an environmental consulting firm in Orange County, Calif. I fill my sun-soaked days with boating, traveling, and riding beach cruisers with my boyfriend and our pomsky, Loki.

MargU helped me prepare for the world of marketing, because it was the first brand I got to work with hands-on, creatively. Generating content for online platforms, and essentially creating advertising campaigns on campus was the best real-world experience a student could ask for.

I grew up in a family of Parrot Heads, but MargU really solidified my Margaritaville state of mind. Seeing the bright side in all situations, enjoying the little things, and overall…just living positively are all principles instilled in me by the MargU lifestyle. Fins Up!
