50 drinks in 50 states: The Colorado Bulldog in Colorado

Get inspired to drink your way across America (without ever leaving your backyard) with Margaritaville’s 50 Drinks in 50 States series.

The State of Colorado is synonymous with downhill skiing, white water rafting and other outdoor adventures. In our opinion, anyone who participates in such activities certainly deserves a special cocktail upon completion. While we can’t prove that this drink was invented in Colorado, we think it would be a party pleaser any time of the year and, for that, we bring you the Colorado Bulldog in none other than Colorado.

This creamy beverage is a spinoff of the popular White Russian by adding Coca Cola. The splash of fizz is a refreshing surprise that compliments the coffee-flavored concoction!

Colorado has the highest average altitude across the United states at 6,800 feet above sea level. The city of Denver is known as Mile High City because it is 5,280 feet above sea level, which is the equivalent of one mile. With such high altitude comes the importance of consuming plenty of water ahead of your cocktails to avoid dehydration and altitude sickness.

We realize that recommending a drink with cream isn’t exactly calorie friendly but if you’ve been tearing up the slopes or battling rapids then it is more than well-deserved! Enjoy!

Ingredients (Makes 1 Serving)

  • 1 ounce vodka
  • 2 ounce coffee liqueur, such as Kahlua
  • 1 ounce cream (or milk)
  • 1 ounce coca-cola

Directions
Fill a lowball glass with ice and add the vodka and coffee liqueur. Next, pour in the Cola and top it off with the cream or milk. Give it a stir for a nice swirling effect.

A Twist
Try using a flavored vodka for added boost such as coffee, whipped cream or vanilla.
