National Student Athlete Day with MargU

MargU ambassadors live on island time, but always make their deadlines… and they bring that same energy to the field, court, track, or water! This April we’d like to feature several MargU ambassador student athletes in celebration of their hard work and team spirit…

Makenna, Bowling Green State University

Sport: Golf

How long have you been playing? I have been playing since I was 3.

Favorite memory or moment in your sport: I got my first hole in one while playing a national tournament.

What does being a part of a team mean to you? To me, being a part of a team has helped me grow so much in my personal and professional life. I have been blessed to be able to be a part of successful teams and learn how to be a leader amongst those.

How does the Margaritaville mindset show up in your game day vibe? Golf is such a mental sport, so I try to take the Margaritaville relaxation mindset with me when I play. I look around no matter where I am and take in the beauty and be present where my feet are.

Marissa, Monmouth University

Sport: Rowing

Position: Coxswain

How long have you been playing? 7 years

Favorite memory or moment in your sport: Medaling at Dadvail’s!

What’s your pre-game ritual or go-to hype song? My Pre-race ritual is to get a good night’s sleep, write down every detail of the day from our warmup to the race plan, and lastly, always overprepare incase anything goes wrong.

Who or what inspired you to start playing? My dad rowed in college and introduced me to the sport, and I have loved it ever since.

Isaac, University of Cincinnati

Sport: Cross Country & Track

Position: Distance

How long have you been playing? I’ve run competitively for  9 years total and I’m a 2nd year at UC.

Favorite memory or moment in your sport: Running at the Under-20 US track and field championships!

What’s your pre-game ritual or go-to hype song? I eat chicken noodle soup prior to every race day or night.

How do you balance academics, athletics, and life? I don’t know, it’s like magic… Sometimes even I don’t know how it works out.

Who or what inspired you to start playing? I started running because my Mom forced me to, but as I have grown I love to compete, gauge my progress and represent my city

What does being a part of a team mean to you? Pushing one another towards the best versions of ourselves

How does the Margaritaville mindset show up in your game day vibe? I am always incredibly nervous so it’s important for me to relax and enjoy the moment.

Ashlyn, Virginia Tech

Sport: Trap & Skeet

How long have you been playing? Since I was 16.

Any recent team wins or championships? I won women’s Super-sporting clays at our regional in Prince George’s County MD this past fall!

Favorite memory or moment in your sport: Attending ACUI Collegiate nationals this past March in San Antonio TX

What’s your pre-game ritual or go-to hype song? Any 2010’s pop

Who or what inspired you to start competing? My dad inspired me since I grew up seeing him compete and thought it seemed cool!

Rachel, Kansas University

Sport: Waterskiing (Slalom and trick ski)

How long have you been playing?  I’ve been skiing for 7 months!

Any recent team wins or championships? The team placed 7th in the nation at nationals.

Favorite memory or moment in your sport: My favorite memory was my first time trick skiing! I had only been skiing for a few weeks and had just returned from my first tournament. I assisted the local team in getting ready for their practice and was asked to join in. My first pass I was able to stand up on skis I had never used before and do two tricks I had only learned an hour before. I loved trick skiing from that session and have been doing it ever since!

Kaitlyn, Stony Brook University

Sport: Cheerleading

Any recent team wins or championships? 2024 University World Cup Champion, 4x UCA D1 Finalist

How long have you been playing?  12 years

What’s your pre-game ritual or go-to hype song? Now or Never- Pitbull

How do you balance academics, athletics, and life? I stick to a strict schedule where I would dedicate specific times to focus on each! It helped me not burn out and stay focused on only one at a time!

Who or what inspired you to start playing? I’ve always wanted to be a cheerleader after seeing them on Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade when I was a little girl!

What does being a part of a team mean to you? Being a cheerleader means the world to me. You form life-long bonds with your teammates and create core memories together. I love being able to represent my university and show everyone how strong girls can be!

How does the Margaritaville mindset show up in your game day vibe? Cheerleading is such an intense sport- you get one shot to showcase a routine you’ve been working on for almost a year. Keeping calm and being able to relax and tune into the 5 o’Clock Somewhere vibe in these times is critical to success!

Fins Up to all our ambassadors who hustle hard on and off the field!
